It didn’t quite work out for Still Having Fun in his two-turn debut Saturday in the Private Terms Stakes, but certainly better days are still ahead.
“Obviously, we’re disappointed in the outcome of the race,” Tim said. “Any time you’re the favorite going into the race – the heavy favorite like he was, running against most of the same horses he’d already beaten – you kind of hoped the outcome was going to be different than it was.”
It was an uphill climb from the start for Still Having Fun. He broke a step slow, clipped heels a few strides after leaving the gate and found himself in last place around the first turn. He progressively moved forward along the backstretch and made a move in between horses around the turn to get into third. He couldn’t quite muster a rally from that point on, finishing fourth and beaten 2 1/4 lengths.
“Once again, he had a troubled trip. On the bright side, he switched his leads,” Tim said. “I felt like he handled the distance fine. In the Miracle Wood he was able to overcome the trouble, but in this race, he wasn’t.
“The horse came out of the race well. We’ll give it about a week or so and get with Gary, Adam, and Jim and see where they want to go next.”
As for future action this weekend, Cyndara goes in Friday’s fourth race. A winner last time out, she moves up in class slightly this weekend.
The barn will have two representatives in Saturday’s seventh. Emma’sdiamonddiva and Bay Of Sighs will go in the 1-mile race designated for 3-year-old fillies.
Unlike earlier in the week, when another major snowstorm came through, the weather should be fine for racing this weekend.
“The track was closed today and will be closed tomorrow,” Tim said Wednesday. “It’s not too big of a deal for me, because I have my Equi-Ciser machine that all the horses can go in. I have two small barns so I can give them a good long jog in one barn, and the other barn we walk in, so it works out well.”
Off the racetrack, Ryan will be competing with Flintstar again this weekend. They will be at the Carolina International CIC and Horse Trial at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford, NC.
